Building a mobile rig and running silent events.

About DJ & Events

Mobile work has a different set of constraints from installed or touring audio. One person loads in, sets up, operates and loads out, often in a room they have never seen, with a socket at the back of the bar and no crew to help. These guides cover building a rig around that reality.

The mobile DJ starter setup works through a complete first rig: controller or media players, speakers sized to the rooms you actually work in, stands, a subwoofer decision that is really a decision about how much you are willing to carry, lighting that gives you a dinner look and a party look, and the cabling and spares that keep a night running when something fails. It is written around function work, where reliability and pack-down time matter more than specifications.

Silent disco equipment covers a format that solves a specific problem: venues with noise limits, curfews or neighbours, and events that want two or three channels running at once. It explains how transmitters and headphones work together, how many channels are worth having, charging and hygiene between events, and what to check about range and interference before committing to a system for hire stock.

Both come back to the same practical points. Buy for the biggest room you regularly work in rather than the largest you can imagine, keep the setup within one trip if you can, and label everything, because the difference between a smooth night and a bad one is usually a missing lead rather than a shortfall in equipment.

The DJ equipment, PA, lighting and cabling to build either rig sit in the DJ and Audio sections of the shop.
