About Acoustic Guitar Strings

Phosphor Bronze is the string most steel-string acoustics are fitted with, giving a warm, full voice that works unplugged in a room and through an acoustic pickup on stage. This range is D’Addario Phosphor Bronze in four gauges: the EJ15 10-47, EJ26 11-52, EJ16 12-53 and EJ17 13-56, all in 3 Sets packs, with the EJ26 and EJ16 also in 10 Sets packs for schools, teachers and hire stock.

Acoustic sets run heavier than electric because the strings have to drive the top of the guitar. The 10-47 and 11-52 are the easier options on the fingers, which helps beginners, students and players coming over from electric, and suits fingerpicking. 12-53 is the all-rounder, with more volume and body without a big jump in tension. 13-56 is for hard strummers and larger-bodied guitars where you want the most projection, but check the guitar is set up for that tension before fitting it.

These sets are for steel-string acoustics only; a classical guitar needs nylon strings and should not be fitted with steel. Changing Strings covers fitting and making a set last.

Acoustic Guitar Strings FAQs

Which acoustic gauge should a beginner use? A lighter set such as the EJ15 10-47 or EJ26 11-52 is easier to fret and less tiring while building finger strength.

Can I put these strings on a classical guitar? No. These are steel strings for steel-string acoustics; a classical guitar is built for nylon strings and is not designed for the tension of a steel set.
