About Matrix Lights & Matrix Bars

Matrix lighting is built from grids of individually controllable cells, so a fixture can chase, fade, flash and show patterns across its face instead of washing a single colour. It is the eye-candy layer behind DJ booths, band backlines and club rigs, bought by mobile DJs, bands and venues who want movement in the rig itself.

The section currently holds two Citronic fixtures. The Citronic Matrix Pro 10×10 Matrix Light is a standalone fixture, and the Citronic Matrix Bar Pro 20 x 2 Matrix Light and Stand comes with its own stand, so it can be set up as a self-contained piece behind a DJ or either side of a stage.

Choosing between them comes down to format and how you will mount it. A bar supplied with a stand is quick to build and pack, which suits mobile work, while a standalone fixture is the one to mount on your own stands or truss alongside the rest of the rig. In both cases, plan how you will control them: matrix effects look their best when each cell is driven from a lighting desk, so check your controller and addressing before buying, using DMX Explained as a starting point.

Matrix Lighting FAQs

What is matrix lighting? Fixtures made of a grid of individually controllable cells, so chases, patterns and effects can run across the face of the light.

What do I need to control a matrix light? A lighting desk or controller that can address the cells you want to use. Plan your addressing before you buy, and see the DMX controllers range.
