About Disco Lights & DJ Effect Lights

Disco and effect lights are about movement and texture rather than lighting a face: beams sweeping a dance floor, rippling water across a ceiling, patterns that fill a room for a party. Mobile DJs, bars, clubs, function venues and schools buy them to give a dance floor some life without a full rig of moving heads.

The section spans Equinox, Chauvet DJ, ADJ and Elumen8. Water effects include the Chauvet DJ Abyss 2, the Equinox Waterwave XP and the ADJ H2O IR and H2O Two. For beams and multi-beam looks there is the Equinox UFO and Asteroid, the ADJ Quad Phase HP moonflower, Mini Dekker and Starburst, the Chauvet DJ Core 5×1 ILS and the Elumen8 GB1 Reflectabeam. The Equinox Kaleido XP projects kaleidoscope patterns. Combination units pack several effects into one box: the Equinox Hornet 4-in-1 does effect, beam, wash, strobe and laser, and the Chauvet DJ Swarm 5 FX ILS combines a derby, red/green laser and white strobe.

Pick by the look you need first. Water effects suit slower, atmospheric moments such as first dances and chill-out areas, while multi-beam and moonflower units drive a busy dance floor. A combo unit saves space and setup time for a mobile DJ; separate effects give more control in a fixed venue. Effects of this type typically run in auto or sound-active modes for a DJ working alone, or under DMX from a controller.

Beams read far better with a little atmosphere, so pair them with one of our Haze Machines, and look at Mirror Balls for the classic look.

Disco & Effect Lights FAQs

Can I use effects with a laser in any venue? Units such as the Equinox Hornet and Chauvet DJ Swarm 5 FX ILS include a laser, so check the venue’s requirements before you set up. Our laser shows guide covers what to consider.

Do I need a DMX controller to run these? Not usually. Most effects of this type have built-in automatic or sound-active programmes, and DMX is there when you want them synchronised with the rest of a rig.
