Match the case to the workflow rather than to the equipment alone. Road trunks swallow cable, rigging and the general chaos of a load-out, and a crew will use them whether or not you planned to. Drawer cases keep production consumables findable at speed, which is worth more on a busy stage than the space they take. Rack cases are chosen on U height and internal depth, and wheeled versions pay for themselves on anything heavier than a comfortable two-person lift. Fixture cases carry a full set of lights in a truck-friendly footprint without individual wrapping, and they protect the parts that actually break: yokes, lenses and displays.

Measure with the connectors fitted. Internal depth is where most orders go wrong, because a right-angled powerCON, a stiff loom or a clamp left on a fixture adds inches that the specification sheet does not mention. Check the lid depth as well as the body, since cable is usually what fills it.

Castor specification matters more than it looks. Braked swivel castors on the right base plate turn a heavy case into something one person can position; undersized ones make it a two-person job on any surface rougher than a smooth floor, and they are the part that fails first on hire stock.
