About LED Stage Lights: Pars, Washes, Battens & Strobes
The LED fixtures that do most of the work on a stage: pars, washes, battens and strobes, from LEDJ, Chauvet DJ, Chauvet Professional, ADJ, Equinox and Elumen8.
LED Par Cans are the general-purpose wash light, from compact Equinox MicroPar units to LEDJ’s IP-rated Spectra Par exterior fixtures and Elumen8’s 6-in-1 Alu HEX pars. Wash Lights cover larger and more powerful washes, including the LEDJ Spectra Q40 MKII exterior fixture and Chauvet Professional’s COLORdash Accent 5X IP. LED Battens put a line of colour along a cyc, a stage edge or a truss, with pixel and rotating bars such as the Equinox Swing Batten for movement. Strobes & Blinders handle hits and audience looks, including ADJ’s Jolt strobe bars and Vintage-style blinder effects.
The colour engine is the first choice. RGBW handles most stage colour, while 6-in-1 RGBWAUV fixtures add amber and UV for warmer tones and effects. For outdoor events and wet venues, choose an IP-rated exterior model.
Moving lights are in Moving Heads, atmosphere and lasers in Special Effects, and desks and DMX in Lighting Control. The battens, pars and uplighters guide compares the fixture types.
LED Stage Lighting FAQs
Par, wash or batten? Pars are the general-purpose wash light, wash lights cover bigger areas or longer throws, and battens give a line of light for cycs, stage edges and truss.
Do I need IP-rated fixtures? For outdoor events, marquees and anywhere a fixture may get wet, yes. IP-rated exterior fixtures such as the LEDJ Spectra range are sealed against rain and dust.
