Profiles and fresnels built for theatre, education, houses of worship and studio work, all LED: ADJ’s Encore Profile 1000 WW ellipsoidal and Encore FR50Z and FR150Z fresnels, Elumen8’s Virtuoso 1000 profiles alongside its MP75 and TZ 350 fresnels, and LEDJ’s Artisan range spanning the 1200 WW profile and 2000-series fresnels in dual white and RGBWA.

Profile or fresnel is the first split. Profiles give a hard, shutter-shaped edge with gobo projection for specials, texture and precise front light, while fresnels throw a soft-edged wash that blends smoothly across a stage and typically shapes with barn doors. Light engine comes next: warm white units sit comfortably alongside the tungsten sources they replace, dual white gives variable colour temperature for mixed tungsten and daylight environments, and colour engines such as the MP75’s RGBL or the Artisan 2000’s RGBWA fold the colour decision into the fixture rather than a gel frame. Note that the Elumen8 Virtuoso 1000 profiles are sold as body only, so budget for the lens tube that matches your throw distance at the same time.

Theatrical Lighting FAQs

Profile or fresnel? Profiles give a hard, shutter-shaped edge and take gobos, the specials and front-light workhorse. Fresnels wash soft-edged area light with barn-door control. Most theatre rigs want both, roughly two washes to one profile.

Warm white or colour-mixing? WW engines with high CRI flatter skin and cost less; RGBWA and dual-white add flexibility for multi-use halls. Schools and churches doing plays and presentations usually want dual white first.
