Cloth choice drives everything else. Serge is the heavier wool-based cloth with excellent light absorption, the pick for masking, blackout duties and anywhere camera or audience sightlines demand a dead black. Molton is a brushed cotton cloth, lighter to handle and rig, well suited to general venue dressing and pipe and drape runs. Top finish decides how it hangs: pocket drapes slide straight onto a pipe and drape crossbar, pleated drapes carry sewn-in fullness for a fuller finished look, and the standard drapes are the general-purpose masking option. Measure both the span and the drop before ordering, and err generous on width, a drape hung dead flat looks mean where the same cloth with fullness reads properly from the house.

Stage Drape FAQs
