Do I need to switch on phantom power for this?
Yes. This is a condenser microphone, so it needs 48V phantom power from your mixer, preamp or an active DI. Without it the microphone will produce little or no output. More on phantom power.
What polar pattern does it have?
Cardioid, so the pickup is heart shaped: most sensitive to the front, least sensitive directly behind. That rear rejection is what buys you gain before feedback with a wedge in front of the performer. How to stop feedback.
