Torches and Work Lights Explained: Ledlenser P, W, AF and AL Series
Choose by the job first and the lumens second. A keyring torch, a magnetic inspection lamp and a mains-capable floodlight solve different problems, and Ledlenser’s own specifications for each are laid out side by side below.

Besides the head torches, we stock fifteen Ledlenser lights: eight P series hand torches, three W series inspection lamps and four AF and AL series area lights. The smallest weighs 36g and fits in a trouser pocket; the largest weighs 2.59kg and lights a loading dock.
The short answer
For a pocket torch that does everything, the P7R: 2000 lumens on Boost, a 320m beam, 80 hours on low and IP68. For a pen light that clips to a shirt for rack and desk work, the P4R. On a keyring, the P3R. To light up the inside of a rack or a case hands-free, the W6R, with its magnet and fold-out head. For a dock, a corridor or a car park at get-out, the AF4R floodlight, which runs on its battery or from the mains.

Every P series torch focuses from a wide flood to a concentrated spot. The small ones are genuinely small: the P2R is 98mm long, and the P4R is a 142mm pen light that clips to a shirt pocket. The P3 and P3R come with a key ring.
The rechargeable pen, keyring and P5R models have Ledlenser’s Dual Power Source. The battery itself has a USB-C charging port, and when it is flat the torch can run on a disposable cell instead, so it is never grounded. Ledlenser list a USB-C charging cable in the box with every rechargeable P series torch.
The P5R and P7R are the working torches. Both are IP68, drop tested to 2m and fitted with a transport lock. The P7R uses Ledlenser’s Mode Select Ring to reach its light modes, the transport lock and the USB-C charging port, and it charges in three hours. Its settings run from 25 lumens for 80 hours, through 450 lumens for 5.5 hours and 1200 lumens for 2.5 hours, to a 2000 lumen boost.
What the Pro adds on the P5R and P7R
The Pro versions keep the same maximum output and beam, and change the light itself. The P5R and P7R use cool white LEDs at 6000K to 7500K with a CRI of 70. The P5R Pro and P7R Pro use neutral white at 4500K to 5500K with a CRI of 80, and a higher CRI means colours look closer to how they do in daylight. When you need to tell a brown conductor from a black one in a dim riser, or check a gel colour, that matters. Our explainer on colour temperature and CRI covers what the numbers mean.
- In the box. Both Pro models come with a charging station, a pouch and Ledlenser’s Roll Protection set, as well as the battery, hand strap and USB-C cable the standard models have.
- Runtime. Slightly shorter on the lowest setting: 18 hours against 20 on the P5R, 60 hours against 80 on the P7R.
- Weight. A little heavier: 116g against 99g, and 223g against 197g.
A charging station by the stage door or in the workshop is the quiet argument for the Pro on a production: the torch has a home, so it is charged and where it should be.
W series inspection lamps
Inspection lamps are for lighting a work area rather than pointing a beam. All three are rechargeable over USB-C, with the cable in the box, have a transport lock and a nubbed grip, and the battery can be replaced at the end of its life.

The W2R is a pen-shaped test light that clips to a breast pocket, rated IP54. The W6R and W7R have a fold-out, rotatable lamp head, so they can light the inside of a cable duct, a rack or an amp case from the inside, and a magnet that holds them on steel. The W6R can also stand or hang from its hook.
The W7R adds continuously adjustable colour temperature and a UV light, which Ledlenser describe as helping to authenticate documents and find liquids.
AF and AL series area lights
These are work lights for big spaces: a loading dock during a get-out, a backstage corridor with the house lights off, a car park or an outdoor site. They are not show lighting. All four use Ledlenser’s Hybrid Power, meaning a built-in rechargeable battery for use anywhere or mains power through the power adapter in the box. All have tunable white light from 3000K to 6500K, a CRI of 80 and an IP67 rating, and all have a transport lock.

The AF series are directional floodlights with Ledlenser’s Multi-Concentrated Light technology and reduced peripheral glare, and each comes with a diffuser. The AF4R and AF8R also have a magnet. The AL10R is different: a lantern with three light panels you can switch individually for 360°, 240° or 120° of light, with its own diffuser in the box. Point the light where people are working and switch off the panel facing the audience or the road.

IP54, IP67 and IP68
- IP54 (P2R, P3, P3R, P4R and the W series). Protected against dust and against splashing water. Fine in the rain, not for dropping in a puddle.
- IP67 (all the head torches, and the AF and AL series). Dust-tight and protected against temporary immersion.
- IP68 (P5R, P5R Pro, P7R, P7R Pro). Dust-tight and protected against continuous immersion.

Frequently asked questions
Should I buy the P7R or the P7R Pro?
Both give 2000 lumens and a 320m beam. Buy the P7R for the longer runtime on low and the lower weight. Buy the P7R Pro for neutral white light with a CRI of 80, plus a charging station, pouch and Roll Protection set in the box.
Can the AF floodlights run from the mains?
Yes. The AF4R, AF8R, AF12R and AL10R all use Hybrid Power: they run on their built-in rechargeable battery or from the mains through the power adapter supplied.
Do the small torches take disposable batteries?
The P3 runs on an AAA alkaline cell. The P2R, P3R, P4R, P5R and P5R Pro have Ledlenser’s Dual Power Source, so they can run on a disposable cell in place of their rechargeable battery. The P7R and P7R Pro run on their 21700 rechargeable battery.
Is a USB-C cable included?
Yes. Ledlenser list a USB-C charging cable in the box with every rechargeable P series torch, every W series lamp and the AF floodlights. The P3 needs no charging.
What is the UV light on the W7R for?
Ledlenser describe it as a high-contrast UV light that helps authenticate documents and find liquids.
