The short answer

Elumen8 is a range supplied in the UK by Prolight Concepts, based in Colne, Lancashire. It is not one product line but several: stage and theatre lighting, outdoor-rated effects lights, snow and wind machines, decorative net and festoon lighting, event power distribution, a large cable range, and touring flight cases.

If you need one sentence per area: Virtuoso is the theatre family (profiles, fresnels, cyc and house lights), Evora and Titan are moving heads, Mira, Meteor and Fury are battens, FX panels and blinders, Impact is the IP65 gobo projector, IMST, ISCHL and MERZ are distro boxes built with PCE components, cable comes in PRO, INSTALL and TOUR grades, and Cygnus is the DMX and Art-Net data range. This guide maps each family and points you to our deeper guides rather than repeating them.

Who makes Elumen8

Prolight describes itself as a B2B manufacturer and distributor of lighting, effects, audio, truss and accessories, trading since 1996. Elumen8 is supplied in the UK by Prolight, which publishes the Elumen8 catalogue pages, manuals and product pages that the specifications in this guide come from. Prolight also runs an in-house cable manufacturing facility, and much of the Elumen8 cable range (Socapex, DMX and microphone cables among them) is described as made in the UK.

On the lighting side, Prolight quotes a two-year warranty on Elumen8 fixtures such as the Fury blinders, Mira battens, Alu pars and Impact projectors. Many Elumen8 fixtures use Seetronic PowerTwist TR1 power connectors (which Prolight describes as powerCON TRUE1 compatible) and IP-rated 5-pin XLR data. Our powerCON and TRUE1 linking guide explains what mates with what.

Virtuoso: theatre profiles, fresnels, cyc and house lights

Virtuoso is Elumen8’s theatrical family. Prolight’s wording stresses flat, even fields, high CRI, selectable refresh rates and RDM. Most colour versions are RGBAL (five-colour) or HEX (RGBALC, six-colour, adding cyan); the WW versions are 3,200K warm white. Our LED profiles and fresnels guide compares them with other brands on colour quality and replacing tungsten, so here is just the shape of the family.

  • Virtuoso 600 profiles. Compact profiles with a manually adjustable 25° to 50° zoom, four framing shutters and an M-size gobo slot. The Virtuoso 600 WW has a 150W warm white LED and quotes CRI 98 (some Prolight feature lists mention a dimmer pack control mode, but the safety section of the Elumen8 manuals says not to connect the equipment to a dimmer pack, so feed it from a non-dim supply and control it over DMX); the Virtuoso 600 RGBAL has a 150W five-colour array with a 2,700K to 8,000K colour temperature control; and the Virtuoso 600 HEX steps up to a 200W six-colour RGBALC array.
  • Virtuoso 1000 profiles. Sold as the body only. Prolight says the body accepts many common and aftermarket lens tubes, including Source Four, so you can move to LED without replacing your lens tubes; Elumen8 lens tubes from 5° to 50°, zooms, an iris and gobo holders are available too. See the Virtuoso 1000 Profile WW MKII, HEX version and the glass gobo holder.
  • Virtuoso fresnels. The Virtuoso 1500 Fresnel HEX has a 100W six-colour COB, a manual 10° to 50° zoom and quoted CRI 95, R9 99 and TLCI 90. The Virtuoso 2500 Fresnel HEX steps up to 250W and 10° to 55°. The 220W Virtuoso 2000 RGBAL and Virtuoso 2000 WW complete the set.
  • Virtuoso 700 CYC IP HEX. An IP65 cyc and footlight with a 180W RGBALC array and a 70° beam. Its safety footlight mode keeps the LEDs on at a low level during blackouts to mark the stage edge. View the 700 CYC IP
  • Virtuoso 700 House Light HEX. A 150W RGBALC house light, convection cooled for silent running, shipped with a 30° lens plus 18° and 50° lenses. View the 700 House Light
  • Virtuoso 800 Par IP HEX. A 150W RGBALC par in an IP65 housing with a 16° beam and CRI 95, for indoor or outdoor use. View the 800 Par IP

Pars: Alu Pars and Endura

The Alu Pars are Elumen8’s straightforward aluminium LED pars (Prolight lists no IP rating for them), with rugged housings, a four-button display and a filter frame supplied. The Alu HEX Par 64, one of our best-selling Elumen8 lights, uses 12 x 12W six-colour RGBWAUV LEDs with a 25° beam; Prolight lists 7,534 lux at 2m, 150W consumption, 4.7kg, 3-pin XLR data, powerCON in and out and RDM. The Alu Quad Par 64 MKII is the RGBW sibling: 12 x 10W, 22°, 11,505 lux at 2m and 5-pin XLR.

Endura is the heavy-duty, rental-ready IP65 par series. Prolight highlights flicker-free 3,600Hz refresh, a menu lock against unauthorised changes, and TRUE1-compatible Seetronic power with IP-rated 5-pin XLR. The Endura 1Q120 RGBW COB Zoom has a 120W RGBW COB and a 13° to 38° zoom; there is also a 100W UV100 COB version. What IP65 does and does not cover is in our outdoor lighting and IP ratings guide.

Prolight also lists the Meteor 1060 Zoom, a moving batten with ten 60W RGBW LEDs and a 3° to 41° motorised zoom. The Mira manuals say both Mira models include an Art-Net to DMX bridge for fixtures downstream on the same universe. How these compare with strobes and pixel bars from other brands is in our strobes, blinders and pixel bars guide.

Moving heads: Evora, Titan and Kudos

Evora is the main moving head family. Prolight pitches the spots, profile and hybrids at rental, stage and touring, and the zoom washes at rental and installation. Every Evora model below except the 850 Zoom Spot lists DMX, RDM, Art-Net, sACN and Kling-Net control with a W-DMX wireless transceiver built in. For choosing between spot, wash, beam and hybrid, start with our moving head buying guide.

The Titan T1 is the outdoor-rated option: an IP65 housing that Prolight says is designed for wet, dusty and sandy conditions, with a studio fan mode quoted at 32.7dB at 1m with no movement. The Kudos 2RE is a compact beam moving head with a 132W Osram Sirius HRI discharge lamp and a 4° beam angle. Fixture-specific flight cases are listed for most Evora models.

Impact gobo projectors

Prolight describes the Impact series as gobo and logo projectors for indoor or outdoor use, for throwing effects and custom gobos onto buildings, walkways and facades. The Impact 100 has a 100W white LED, motorised zoom (15° to 30°) and focus, a wheel of seven rotating replaceable gobos, a seven-colour wheel, a three-facet prism and a ripple wheel, in an IP65 housing weighing 11.4kg.

Each size comes in two versions. The Impact 100 INSTALL has an architectural grey finish and Hydralock PRO trailing power and DMX connections. The Impact 100 PRO is black, has an omega clamp, TRUE1-compatible Seetronic power and IP-rated 5-pin XLR, and is rated IP65 for temporary outdoor use. The Impact 400 PRO and Impact 400 INSTALL use a 400W white LED with a 10° to 30° zoom and follow the same connector split: TRUE1-compatible Seetronic power and IP-rated 5-pin XLR on the PRO, Hydralock PRO trailing connections on the INSTALL. Gobo types, sizes and custom logos are covered in our gobo and logo projection guide.

Snow and wind: Storm 600 and Windstorm

The Storm 600 is a high-output snow machine for medium to large events. Prolight lists 850W, a 20 litre tank, DMX, a wireless remote, and a 10m hose so the hose can be rigged while the main unit is hidden under a stage or behind scenery. It ships in a wheeled flight case and weighs 37kg. The Windstorm is a 310mm fan wind machine rated at 55m³/min, adjustable in 1% steps from the menu or one DMX channel, drawing 185W. Fluids, floors and smoke detectors are covered in our snow, bubble and wind machine guide.

Net lights, string lights and festoon

The Elumen8 6 x 4m connectable LED net light is one of our best-selling Elumen8 products. Prolight specifies heavy-duty rubber cable, IP65, 1,600 warm white (2,700K) LEDs, 200W, and up to two 6 x 4m sets on a single power cable; the 13A or 16A starter leads are sold separately. String lights can be used together with the nets, Prolight says. Link limits, starcloth alternatives and flame-retardancy paperwork are in our LED net lights guide.

Elumen8 heavy-duty festoon is made in the UK from 2mm² flat twin rubber cable, with ultrasonically welded lamp holders and an IP67 PCE 16A plug and socket fitted. Prolight lists BS EN 60598-2-20 testing, a lamp holder rating of 60W at 230V, and lamps not supplied. Bayonet cap and Edison screw versions come in several lengths and spacings, such as the 100m ES festoon with 1m spacing. 2.75m festoon poles are listed too. Our festoon and outdoor event lighting guide covers planning.

Power distribution: IMST, ISCHL and MERZ

Elumen8 distros are built with PCE components. Prolight describes the three families like this:

  • IMST: handy, lightweight, shock-resistant polyamide boxes with a steel folding carry handle, stackable and IP44, made in the EU. 32A inputs, single- or three-phase. Example: IMST 32A single-phase in, 4 x 16A + 1 x 32A out.
  • ISCHL: compact polyamide boxes, IP44, made in the EU, in 32A and 63A versions. Our best-selling distro is the ISCHL 32A three-phase to 6 x 16A RCBO: Prolight lists a 32A three-phase inlet with a pass-through socket, and six 16A outlets each protected by its own 30mA RCBO, at 4.2kg.
  • MERZ: larger stackable thermoplastic boxes, IP44, from 32A up to 125A and Powerlock inputs. Prolight says the 125A boxes use PCE components in a MERZ enclosure, with an indicator lamp on every outlet and phase, neutral and earth indicators on the input. Examples: MERZ 125A to 63A/32A/16A and MERZ Powerlock to 125A.

Choosing, not installing

This guide helps with product selection only. Design, installation and testing of temporary electrical systems is a job for a competent person. Our event distro boxes guide explains RCBO types and how to read a distro spec sheet, and event power distribution explained covers the connector sizes.

Cable: TRUE1, Socapex, DMX, speaker and data

Mains and TRUE1 leads

The biggest-selling Elumen8 cables are fixture power: TRUE1 TOP link cables, 13A and 16A feeder leads, the TRUE1 to 13A 4-gang lead and Truelink T-pieces such as the TR1-F 1 in, 1 out with gland. Which of these mate with which, and how many fixtures you can link, is all in our powerCON and TRUE1 guide; cable sheath types are in power cable types for events.

Socapex

Prolight describes Elumen8 Socapex cables as UK-made from Titanex H07RN-F with Elumen8 Showsafe 19-pin connectors, compatible with Amphenol SL419, in 1.5mm² or 2.5mm², and lists IP67 when mated. Lengths run to 50m, for example the 40m 2.5mm² 19-pin, with fan-outs such as the 19-pin to TRUE1 staggered fan-out. Background is in Socapex explained.

DMX

Elumen8 DMX cables are made in Prolight’s UK facility from Elumen8 tour grade single-pair screened 110Ω cable, with Neutrik or Seetronic XLRs in 3-pin and 5-pin. A 5-pin Neutrik XLR-TOP version is IP65 when mated with matching XLRs. See the 10m 5-pin Tour DMX cable.

Prolight also lists speakON NL4FX cables made with TOUR cable. For data, the TOUR S/FTP Cat6A has four individually foiled pairs inside an overall braided screen and is rated -20 to +75°C; it is sold on drums such as the 300m Cat6A drum, and Prolight also lists Cat6A etherCON leads.

Flight cases: road trunks and production cases

Elumen8 touring-grade cases use 9mm hexaboard plywood, riveted 35mm aluminium edge profile, tongue-and-groove lid edging that Prolight says forms a dust-proof seal, heavy-duty ball corners, industrial-grade handles and Penn Elcom butterfly catches. Two are among our best Elumen8 sellers:

  • The 1200mm Road Trunk is a single-compartment trunk, 1203mm long and 41.4kg empty. The accessory tray and divider kit adds a carpeted tray plus one full-height and one short divider.
  • The Four Drawer Production Case has four drawers on ball-bearing slides, five large compartments in the door, and five castors, one of them fitted to the door to stop the case toppling when the drawers are open. It weighs 48.1kg.

Smaller trunks include the 800mm road trunk, Medium and Large road trunks, plus fixture cases for Virtuoso, Evora, Fury and Meteor. Case types and the build features worth paying for are covered in our flight cases and racks guide.

Cygnus: DMX splitters, nodes and wall plates

Prolight describes Cygnus as its data-management range: DMX splitters, DMX mergers, Art-Net nodes and wall plates. The Cygnus SPLIT6 is a 1U, 6-way splitter and booster with outputs opto-isolated from each other and from the input, a switchable-terminated thru, and both 3-pin and 5-pin XLR sockets. The Cygnus NET8 converts Art-Net or sACN to eight DMX universes (4,096 channels), takes PoE, and has a built-in switch. The NET2, SPLIT8PRO, SPLIT10, MERGE and WP1 wall plate fill out the range. Comparisons with other brands are in our Art-Net and sACN nodes guide and DMX splitters guide.
